What I use for Protective Style Maintenance

Updated: Aug 13, 2021

I keep my routine VERY basic; I try new products frequently but the key to my hair is water and oil.

For a recap, I have fine type-4 high porosity hair ( yes a nightmare) which is prone to dryness and breakage. I don't mind heavy products when protective styling because it helps keep moisture.

HYDRATION

For hydration, water is key! I use any product that has water listed as the FIRST ingredient. I enjoy spray leave-ins because it's easy to saturate my hair.

I've been loving the Hydrate + Repair Multi-Action Leave-In which looks white when sprayed but after it's massaged into the scalp it becomes translucent. The 3rd ingredient has glycerin which is a great humectant for the summer. Since it's a watery product I don't experience build-up.

MOISTURE RETENTION

I live for my ORS products which I have been using since childhood. Specifically the ORS Moisturizing Hair Lotion, fun fact this product may be featured in your #BeeNaturalBox!

This product consists of coconut, safflower, and castor oil which reduces frizz and keeps my hair looking shiny! I also use this before I install my protective styles because it really helps my hair keep hydrated. The product is light and creamy without product buildup so I use it with any style I have.

CLEANSING

Cleansing is something that I don't normally do while protective styling. If I wash my hair in a style it will frizz and no amount of gel or mousse can fix it!

I don't keep my syles in for longer than 5 weeks since I have fine hair, so "cleansing" only consists of a quick scalp refresher. We feature Taliah Waajid Moisture Clenz that has antimicrobial properties. It also contains Tea Tree and Peppermint Extract which provides a cooling sensation on my scalp and eliminates any odors!
